Only – Fasting Food Event Announcement

Pari’s ‘Only Series’ of events is here at  Dinner recipes by Sonia’s Kitchen this month and this time it will be only Fasting Food. The reason for picking this as the Fasting Food month is that September month according to Hindu rituals has Navratri and which means fasting. Even otherwise there are a lot of festivals which come in the month of September and all of these definitely have fasting in some form or fashion. Now that said there are several ingredients which are definitely not to be used in the food during fasting and I will detail those in later below in the post but first the Giveaway announcement as well as the Rules for participation in the ONLY FASTING FOOD event.

Giveaway Announcement

This month, Pari has announced a special giveaway!! There will be two giveaway books from  Tarla Dalal for the Indian participants only. International participants can also opt for the giveaway in case they can provide an address in India as the book gets shipped only in India. Read ahead for more eligibility rules ..

Rules for giveaway

For winning the giveaway the participants after sending the entry to me have to leave the link of the entry in Pari’s event announcement page here and have to clearly inform Pari how they are eligible for it as

1. they need to follow her blog publicly and

2. they have to be a fan on the face book page in her blog.

The winner has to provide Pari with the address at cookingoodfood@gmail.com so that she can make arrangements for getting the giveaway delivered.

The winner will be chosen by Pari using random.org and the winner will have to provide Pari with an address in India  within two days of the winner declaration else a new winner will be chosen by her.

Moving on here are the rules for sending in those delicious Fasting foods entries that you will be preparing during the fasts to feed you and your family.

Rules of The Event

1. Any number of fresh entries can be sent but only 2 entries from the archive will be accepted. Archived entries to be reposted, else will not be accepted.
2. Only vegetarian dishes accepted.
3. Use of logo is mandatory as it helps spread the word.
4. The entry should be linked back to my event announcement page and Pari’s ‘Only’- Fasting Food giveaway  page here.
5. The winner of the book from Tarla Dalal will be chosen by Pari by random. org at the end of the event from the links left in her event announcement page.

7. I will post the round up within 7 days of event completion unless there’s an emergency.
8. I can not win the giveaway as I’m guest hosting it.

FOOD tips for Navaratri and other fasting foods  – This will help you prepare the dishes and will also be of help to find the right kind of ingredients.

Spices that you can use – Red Chillies, Turmeric and Cumin Seeds

Salt – This is only “Rock Salt” or called as Senda Namak

Flour – Kuttu ka Atta or Singada ( Water Chestnut Flour)

Vegetables – potato, tomato, lauki or “bottle gourd”, kakdi or “Cucumber”, carrot, sweet potato

Special things that you can eat – sabudana or “Pearl sago” and chaulai or “Amaranth”

So, what is prohibited

No Grains to be used

Only Vegetarian food is allowed

Regular salt is not allowed

Fruits are allowed

I love a few things that can be prepared with Kuttu ka Atta and Saboodana and of course Potato can be used in almost any sort of vegetable. So get on ladies  Jai Mata Di !
